I gotta be honest. I bought this book because the planet "Verdantia" is similar to the name of one of my characters on World of Warcraft. Seriously.

I kept reading it because it's a really good book. The plot is something I've not come across before, the planet "Verdantia" is a sentient planet. Sex is a BIG part of life there, as the rulers have ritual sex in order to protect the planet and actually "power" the lives there--literally. The power goes out and the Queen and her Consort have sex and all the fire places light up.

I'm not really explaining this right, because honestly, there is a LOT going on in this novel. I loved Ari, Dolan, and especially Fleur--she's a very strong heroine and not what I expected. I also was surprised at how much I loved Dolan, even more so than Ari, because you don't really get Dolan's story until the last fourth of the novel.

And I'll just come out and say that I think Dolan's tormentor got exactly what they deserved. As sick and twisted as their fate was.

This is part of a series, and I'm now going to have to get the rest of the novels to see what happens next.

Here we go with another new to me author; previously, I've mentioned that these are writers I would not have been exposed to prior to doing reviews for this blog. With an imagination like hers she not only captured but kept my attention with this first story in the Verdentia series.

The world building alone sold me. It was good - really good. One of the things that I thought was brilliant is that Earth is never mentioned and you might think that's a bad thing but it worked well for this story and even more important I could easily picture Verdentia. I think one reason was because of the choice of vocabulary - Knight has her own for this world and once I started reading and getting my mind into that world it flowed pretty easily.

Military Commander, Conte Camliel Aristos deTano has been betrothed to Princess Fleur Constante for a great long while. He's been avoiding the marriage for just as long but it's time that these two not only meet but save their sentient planet,Verdentia, because it's verge of destruction. Yes, I said sentient - I don't know how or why but it works for me. After the couple's marriage and their first time having sex, the sentient being(s) tell Ari that the depleted planet needs him to find the third. Their third turns out to be Ari's right hand man, Visconte Doral deLorian. Together these three will form the first Tertriach the planet has seen in centuries.

You folks know how hard it is to like one character in a m/f story - tickle me pink that I liked all three in this m/m/f. Ari's that nice blend of alpha with a soft side for the people he cares about. He's been avoiding Fluer so long that it's became a habit for him every time one of the elders requested his attention about her. Once he meets her though, he's smitten and you could tell he was slightly embarrassed with his previous treatment of her. Their chemistry together was smoking hot and fun to read.

Fleur is one of the few lower level magistras providing energy to Verdentia. She's been waiting and preparing for the day when she would marry Ari. It kind of took me back for a second how sex was used a way to transfer energy to this planet but it didn't take me long to get over that. The thing that I found special about Fleur is that she will do anything on this side of the law to save her planet. Her selflessness and compassion are a couple of her traits that Ari and Doral just couldn't resist.

Doral - oh my word - had my heart a flutter. Knight's description of him reminded me of a more charismatic Legolas and hey I'm human - I can't resist that. Doral past was really bad, I mean he had been through some pretty crappy stuff and came out the other side a little bit jaded but no less protective of his loved ones. Because he wasn't part of the initial relationship between Ari and Fleur I was ready for him to be completely in love with Ari and accept Fleur as a way to get to Ari; but no, he was just as vested in the relationship with Fleur as he was Ari; my fellow readers that earned a *fist pump* and a heck yeah!

The relationship and chemistry between the three characters worked so well, I couldn't help but want an HEA for them. I've already got the second story (Hers to Choose) in my to be read stack.

I got this book a while ago when it was suggested to me but never got around to reading it until now. It may have taken me a while to read but it was well worth the wait. I totally loved this and cannot wait to get to the next one! I fell into this world from the moment I stepped into it and did not want to have to leave. The world was so richly drawn with a planet which had a personality and love for those who lived on it. I liked all the characters including the bad guys because they were all so well fleshed and compelling. The story is told from various points of view not just that of the central characters and because of this you get a fuller look at what is going on with everyone involved.

Verdantia was settled long ago by a group of people who found out that the planet they had chosen to live on was itself alive. Verdantia is sentient and reacts to certain genetic traits by aiding in the protection of the people. But because some had become lax in their rites all the planet must suffer after they were invaded by the Haarb, a warlike race which wants to possess and use the bounty that exists on Verdantia.

Ari stayed away from his home for 15 years because he could not stand the thought of marrying someone not of his choosing, but returned to fight for the planet and people that he loves. Doral is a spy and assassin who is assigned to Ari and fights for and with him. Queen Fleur will do anything to keep her people safe, even risk her life in a ritual. Three people who have no idea that together they may be the only hope for their home.

I was so surprised by the concept but it actually made sense to me. I am not always comfortable with MM relationships in books but this not only had me comfortable I think I enjoyed it almost as much as the characters. The scenes were scorching hot but held a lot of tenderness as well. The combination of heat and real love made this a great read. The relationship between our three main characters drew you while the intrigue kept you guessing. Looking forward to the next one! Recommend highly!

The world building is wonderful, it's very well written, the characters are so perfect (flawed and interesting) and the sex scenes are so hot!!!
I fell in love with Doral. He's so conflicted and courteous. That world gives a historical feeling without old times restrictions.
And to makes things even better? For an erotica story; in a world where sex is necessary to handle the city protection; all the sex scenes are useful to the story or the characters building. No sex to fill the pages.
