This was probably the most confusing book I have ever read. While I can normally read a book in a couple of days, this one took me almost 2 full months to complete. It is book six in the series and I've read the series at the request of someone who loves it. I wish I could say I shared her sentiment, but I just can't.

This book was written with three interwoven timelines running concurrently. Each timeline was set about 3 months apart and was done in a style of flashbacks going backward and forwards in time. Needless to say this became very confusing when you tried to make sense of the plot. The book also ranged over 25 or 30 locations, so many you lost track on where you were and what was happening in that timeline at that location - planet, spaceship, or estate.

Additionally, the list of characters became something out of War and Peace. So many sub stories were happening that I cannot really say that there was a central plot or story holding this book together. Some species spoke fractured English in which you were left with little understanding of what was happening or who the characters/species involved. In the giant space battle, you were then left wondering what was happening as arguments erupted within - I'm not even sure which species it was (or it could have been several species) taking differing opinions on what the next action should be.

Obviously, the person who recommended this series to me had a much better opinion of this book. I found it very muddled and confusing. While I got the gist of the story there are still sections which I could not explain what happened. Take you notebook with you when you read this one, maybe with notes you will be able to keep track of the who, what, when, where and why. I really hope book seven and eight are more like the first two in the series. I'm tired of the confusion and the drepressive endings and really wish I did not have to read book seven.

Stronghold Rising Sholan Alliance Lisanne Norman 9780886778989 Books Reviews

I was surprised but them all, they keep you reading to the point you can't stop and put it down.
as described
I have been a Lisanne Norman fan for many years This has been a fascinating series to follow through the seven books.
I have and am thoroughly enjoying reading, and re-reading this author's writings. We've collected the whole series on/in paperback, and are now downloading them via kindle as they're released digitally. Highly recommend this author and these books!
A very convoluted plot with unexpected twists and turns and hard to put down. Character development ig excellent on main characters. The book doesn't stand alone too well, but a sensational member of the series.
This one was more confusing than the previous Sholan books, but not bad.
I have read the entire series from start to end of STRONGHOLD RISING. I am hooked by the characters and events. Such depth of detail and culture of the aliens involved is my cup of tea. Such complexity and sweeping panorama of settings and characters sucks the reader into that world in which one is reluctant to immerge! Unlike many readers who find this confusing, the cast of many characters and pov changes does not bother me. I find it involving. As a writer I appreciate the difficulty in keeping all this real, and consistant, and aaplaud this author for a job well done. One note to author. . if Kaid, Kusac and Carrie don't form a three way Leska link upon Kusac's return (if he returns), I will be severly disapponted!!!!! I eagerly await the next installment in this series. . . Ria
